What Is a VA Disability Rating and How Is It Calculated?
A VA disability rating is a percentage assigned by the VA reflecting the severity of a service-connected condition. Ratings run from 0% to 100% in increments of 10. Combined ratings for multiple conditions use a combined ratings table — not simple addition — so two 50% conditions do not combine to 100%.

Can the VA Reduce My Disability Rating?
Yes, in certain circumstances. The VA can propose a rating reduction if it determines a service-connected condition has improved. Reductions are subject to procedural protections — veterans generally have the right to notice, an opportunity to respond, and appeal rights.

What Happens After My VA C&P Examination?
After a C&P exam, the examiner submits a report to the VA rater who then makes a decision on your claim. The decision is mailed to you as a Rating Decision. You generally have one year from the decision date to appeal if you disagree.

Are Survivors Eligible for PACT Act Benefits?
Yes. Surviving spouses, dependent children, and certain dependent parents of veterans who died from a condition now recognised as presumptive under the PACT Act may be eligible for Dependency and Indemnity Compensation. Previously denied DIC claims may also be reopened.

Can I Work While Receiving VA Disability Compensation?
Generally yes. VA disability compensation is not income-based and is not affected by employment, with the exception of Total Disability based on Individual Unemployability (TDIU). TDIU recipients must report substantially gainful employment, which can affect the benefit.
